Razorcats TESSY 3.0, the established tool for automated module, unit and integration tests of embedded software, has been re-approved by the TÜV SÜD. Version 3.0 met again all requierements for safety critical software development subject to the regulations IEC 61508:2010 and ISO 26262:2011.
In case of IEC 61508 TESSY observed all rules regarding IEC 61508-3:2010 for verification tools. TESSY was classified T2 appropriate IEC 61508. In terms of ISO 26262 TESSY met all requirements for tool qualification subject to 26262-8 all Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL). Tool Impact (TI) was rated 2 and Tool Error Detection Level (TD) 3. Overall the Tool Confidence Level (TCL) results in value 3.
Tessy V2.9 met all these standards in the year 2011. A re-qualification was necessary because with the major release TESSY V3.0 the overall functionality of TESSY has been strongly expanded, for example the requirements traceability of test cases.
To support the user by his additional qualification Razorcat has added an optional tool called Tool Qualification Package (TQP). This includes test cases and documents. These documents describe the tasks performed by TESSY in the test process and review them in terms of usability in safety critical projects. The test cases are specifically designed to test the relevant tasks relevant to safety critical projects. IF TESSY would by mistake report a 100% code coverage of a test object, this error would hardly be discovered in the rest of the test process. That is the reason why it is important to examine the measurements by TESSY with specially designed tests in order to obtain reliable results.
